6 biggest Minnesota Vikings needs for the 2020 NFL Draft
By Nik Edlund
Defensive Tackle
The Vikings have a great run stuffing duo in Shamar Stephen and Linval Joseph. Those guys are a couple of stout defenders who can clog running lanes, and make life difficult for running backs and the opposing offensive linemen who are trying to open holes for them.
What Minnesota’s defense lacks is a true three-technique defensive tackle. They don’t have that penetrating disruptor who can get in there and cause a ton of interior pressure on quarterbacks.
The Vikings do have some guys on their roster who have shown flashes here and there. Rookie Armon Watts is probably the best of the backups and he has a chance to develop into a good player.
When Watts gets on the field, he makes plays happen. Whether it is pressuring the quarterback or stripping a ball carrier, Watts has proven to be a playmaker this season. While his potential is exciting, he still isn’t ready to take on a starting role. A high draft pick could though.
This likely isn’t an area Minnesota would target in the first round unless the right prospect fell to them. The second or third round seems like a more probable possibility and some names to watch are Neville Gallimore, Marvin Wilson, and Mustafa Johnson.
