Grading the Vikings 2019 NFL Draft class after year one
By Nik Edlund
Armon Watts – DT (Pick No. 190)
Production:
Armon Watts didn’t come onto the scene until about the halfway point of the season for the Vikings. He made a splash though, with three tackles and half a sack in his first game.
Watts continued to make plays with limited snaps and finished the season with 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks in seven games. That’s even more impressive when factoring in that he only saw a handful of snaps per game.
Grade: A
Performance:
Watts was extremely impressive in his limited snaps. He created consistent interior pressure and he also had a knack for knocking balls loose. Watts just seems like one of those guys who is able to consistently make good things happen when he’s out there on the field. This pick looks like one of the bigger steals of Minnesota’s entire 2019 draft class.
Grade: A
Marcus Epps – S (Pick No. 191)
Production:
Marcus Epps didn’t do much for the Vikings this year. He was active for eight games and he had just one tackle. The team released him during the middle of the season and he is now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. The production isn’t much, but being active for eight games as a sixth-round rookie is something.
Grade: D
Performance:
Epps didn’t see the field much and he really didn’t stick out when he did. The Vikings wish him all the best in his career with the Eagles.
Grade: D
Oli Udoh – OT (Pick No. 193)
Production:
Oli Udoh’s rookie year with Minnesota was a lot like Dru Samia’s. He didn’t play until the last game of the season when the Vikings were resting their starters. Udoh was seen as a project when Minnesota selected him, so this really wasn’t surprising.
Grade: D
Performance:
Udoh had some moments in the one game where he saw extended action. The Vikings offensive line, as a whole, played pretty well against the Bears starting defense and Udoh showed some aggression and toughness out there. He may still be a couple of years away, but there is potential here.
Grade: C
