It is being reported that the Cleveland Browns are planning to hire Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach.
Only one day after the Minnesota Vikings put forward one of their most disappointing offensive displays in recent history, it is being reported that the team’s offensive coordinator will be moving on from the purple and gold.
According to Ian Rapoport on Twitter, the Cleveland Browns are expected to announce Kevin Stefanski as the team’s new head coach after firing one-and-done head coach Freddie Kitchens last year.
Here is the tweet from Rapoport:
Stefanski has been a part of the Vikings franchise since 2006 when he was an assistant to Brad Childress. Since then, he has worked his way up through the organization, holding several positional coaching positions before taking over as interim offensive coordinator in 2018 and keeping the job through the 2019 campaign.
There will be plenty of talent in Cleveland for Stefanski to manage. However, the reaction by fans to the exit of Minnesota’s offensive coordinator is already mixed. There were times the Vikings offense didn’t seem well prepared or gameplanned for and the team struggled immensely. Other times, Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook seemed like they could go blow-for-blow with the best offenses in the league.
Sadly, this does mean that Minnesota will be looking for another offensive coordinator this offseason. Sadly, this has been an annual trend for the purple and gold who have dealt with outside hires, promotions, and even stepping down over the past few years.
The hire hasn’t become official as the Browns have yet to announce the transaction, but this sounds like a deal Cleveland is fully intending to make after not hiring Stefanski last offseason.
The Viking Age would like to wish nothing but the best to Kevin Stefanski with the Cleveland Browns, thank him for his time with the Minnesota Vikings, and congratulate him on his promotion to head coach.
