The Chicago Bears have reportedly made the move to hire a former offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings as their quarterbacks coach.

There was a time when it looked like John DeFilippo would be one of the most sought-after offensive minds in the NFL. His creativity with the Philadelphia Eagles had teams drooling over the idea of what their offense would look like with him as their coordinator, including the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings rolled the dice on “Flip” and hired him as their offensive coordinator for the 2018 NFL season. Sadly, that didn’t work out too well for Minnesota as his contract was terminated following an embarrassing loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14 where a difference in philosophy seemed to put DeFilippo at odds with head coach Mike Zimmer.

Following his exit from Minnesota, he landed on his feet with a job as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was another situation where he lasted only one season before being let go.

Now, reports are surfacing that DeFilippo will be returning to the NFC North, only this time he will be with the Chicago Bears according to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Twitter. Here is his tweet with the news:

The Chicago Bears will be looking for some help in their passing game with young quarterback Mitchell Trubisky having a shaky season behind center. They have to be hoping that bringing in DeFilippo can help to give their passer some confidence and work to accentuate his strengths for the upcoming season.

It will be interesting to see what the Chicago Bears offense will look like during the 2020 NFL season with the Minnesota Vikings former offensive coordinator working with their quarterbacks, but it should definitely add a bit more intrigue to the head-to-head matchups between the two teams going forward.
