Vikings Draft 2020: Offseason seven-round mock draft
By Zack Patraw
Third Round (Pick No. 89)
Antoine Winfield Jr. – S (Minnesota)
This pick of Antoine Winfield Jr. will end up being a favorite addition for Vikings fans this entire offseason and he will likely be around in the third round during the 2020 NFL Draft. If you didn’t this out already, he’s the son of former Vikings cornerback, Antoine Winfield.
Winfield came to the Gophers in 2016, but he is just a redshirt sophomore. He has already declared for the NFL Draft, but he could have potentially had two more eligible seasons to play. Lucky for the Vikings in this case because they get to snag him with the 89th overall pick.
This year, Winfield was able to showcase what he was made of. He logged in 12 games and finished with 83 total tackles (3.5 for a loss), three sacks, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one touchdown. A very good final year for a guy who battled injuries the majority of his college career.
Winfield is a true playmaker. His ball skills, whether it’s going for an interception or just knocking the ball out of the air, are some of the best in this 2020 draft class when looking at the defensive backs.
He’s always a threat to take it to the house when he gets the ball in his hands. He’s solid in coverage and can play single-high safety very well. Add in the fact that he is a good tackler as well, we may be talking about him closer to a second-round pick once April rolls around.
The fact that the Vikings may potentially lose Anthony Harris to free agency this year, they will need a guy like Winfield.
