Which Minnesota Vikings free agents should be a priority to re-sign?

9. Ameer Abdullah, kick return/running back

Full disclosure, I was never for bringing Ameer Abdullah to Minnesota. I didn’t see the need for a kickoff return specialist to take up a spot on the 53-man roster when his skills as a running back didn’t seem to fit what the Minnesota Vikings do.

It turns out that he’s a bit more of an asset than expected. Not only is he a solid special teams contributor but he was able to be a solid runner as well as pass-catcher out of the backfield since putting on a Vikings uniform.

He carried the ball 23 times for 115 yards in 2019, making an average of five yards per carry. Plus, he caught 15 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Sure, a total offensive output of 203 yards and one touchdown doesn’t seem like a big impact, but considering everything ran through Dalvin Cook when he was healthy and Alexander Mattison was the clear cut number two, any contribution is welcome.

Much like many of the others early in this list, it wouldn’t cost too much to secure Abdullah for at least one more season. Doing so would eliminate the need for the Vikings to get a running back during the 2019 Draft and let them focus on other needs.
