5 offensive prospects the Vikings should watch at the 2020 Senior Bowl
By Nik Edlund

Michael Pittman Jr. – WR (USC)
Wide receiver is a secondary need for the Vikings as they begin preparing for the 2020 season. They just need to improve the depth here in case they are struck once again with the injury bug. They probably will wait until Day 2 at the earliest to draft a wide receiver, unless something unforeseen happens.
If they do look at a pass catcher in the second or third round then this big, physical Trojan could be right up their alley. Michael Pittman is the son of the former Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Bucs running back, who was absolutely ripped. Pittman Jr. isn’t as shredded as his dad, but he’s every bit as strong.
He’s the type of receiver the Vikings don’t currently have on the roster. He’s 6-foot-4, 220 pounds and excels at going up and making the contested catch. He’s not a burner but has an adequate top gear. He also isn’t a dynamic route runner but that’s something he can work at in the pros. The Vikings wouldn’t need him to grow a huge route tree early in his career anyway. They could use him catching touchdowns in the red zone and making tough grabs in traffic.
One other aspect about Pittman’s game that the Vikings would love, and will likely get a look at first hand down in Mobile, is his ability to block. If he’s leading a play or cracking down on a corner, that is a battle he’ll win every single time. He’d be a huge asset for both Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison.

If Pittman were drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, he would have a role on this team as a rookie. He’d at worst case be the no.4 wide receiving option and a special team’s standout.
