Already on the coaching staff, the Minnesota Vikings will reportedly replace Kevin Stefanski with Gary Kubiak to be their new offensive coordinator for 2020.

During his season-ending press conference, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer expressed his desire to have some continuity when it came to finding a new offensive coordinator.

Well, continuity appears to be exactly what the Vikings will be getting as Gary Kubiak will reportedly take over as the team’s offensive coordinator for 2020 according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday.

After spending last season as an offensive advisor and an assistant head coach for Minnesota, Kubiak will return to being an offensive coordinator for the first time since he was with the Baltimore Ravens in 2014.

During that season with the Ravens, the offense finished 13th in passing and eighth in rushing. Kubiak running the offense also led to Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco throwing for 3,986 yards and 27 touchdowns.

He has been an assistant coach in the NFL since 1994, so the experience is clearly there. Kubiak has also been on a Super Bowl champion staff four times during his coaching career in the league.

With Vikings reportedly deciding to make him their offensive coordinator for 2020, Kirk Cousins will get to run a very similar offense for the second season in a row. Minnesota’s offense already incorporated a bunch of Kubiak’s concepts and verbiage, so there really shouldn’t be much adjustment at all for Cousins to make this offseason.

The Vikings also shouldn’t have to worry about Kubiak leaving for a head coaching job after 2020. He’s currently 58-years-old and he said back in November that he no longer has the desire to be a head coach in the NFL.

So Zimmer gets his continuity on the offensive side of the ball. Now he just has to figure out what to do with Minnesota’s vacant defensive coordinator job.
