Vikings Draft 2020: Pre-Super Bowl seven-round mock draft
By Luke Parrish
Seventh Round (Pick No. 197)
Elijah Sindelar – QB (Purdue)
Teams should draft at least one quarterback every year or two and the Vikings currently do not have a backup on the roster for 2020.
Elijah Sindelar battled injuries at Purdue, but he is a decent option at this point in the draft. After the success of Gardner Minshew in 2019, why not take a chance on a late-round quarterback?
Sindelar has some serious arm talent and he can zip the ball down the field. His mobility in the pocket is also enough to make a few plays here and there.
He is not a hot name among this year’s quarterback prospects due to his inaccuracy and decision-making. He is wildly inaccurate at times and he misses some easy throws. His vision down the field is suspect as he fails to progress through his reads. Instead, Sindelar is guilty of staring down receivers and rifling the ball into tight coverage.
As an NFL backup, Sindelar will have to mitigate his risks and change the way he plays a little bit. He cannot force the ball the same way he did at Purdue.
Minnesota will most likely take the route of signing a veteran to be the backup for Kirk Cousins next season. Still, they should spend a draft pick on a rookie passer this year and see what they have. You never know what can happen.
