Vikings Draft 2020: Pre-Super Bowl seven-round mock draft
By Luke Parrish
Seventh Round (Pick No. 217)
Salvon Ahmed – RB (Washington)
Minnesota’s second pick of the seventh-round goes to Salvon Ahmed. Do the Vikings need a running back? Not necessarily. However, there is a possibility that Dalvin Cook is not extended and a hole at the position could be created in the near future.
Alexander Mattison appears to be in line as the potential replacement, but he needs depth behind him. Mike Boone played well in his brief time in 2019 and he is a key piece on special teams.
Ahmed is a shifty runner with superb speed through gaps. His hesitation and stutter-step are deadly in space and set him up for big runs. Ahmed has also flashed plenty of potential as a receiver out of the backfield.

Ahmed plays small and he does not do well in short-yardage situations. That shouldn’t be a problem, as most NFL teams have a power-back who can handle these carries. However, versatility is always helpful.
Whether or not the Vikings extend Cook, it may benefit them to add another running back and replace Boone for the sake of money.
Boone will need to sign an extension at some point and that price tag will be higher than a seventh-round pick in all likelihood. I am a huge fan of Ahmed and would love to see him in purple and gold next year.
