Draft his replacement

There is also the option of drafting a quarterback for the Vikings, either this year or next, to develop and ensure they have a ready-made replacement ready to go once Kirk Cousins is no longer a viable option.

The likes of Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert will likely be well out of reach for Minnesota this year. But guys like Jalen Hurts, Jake Fromm, Jacob Eason, Steven Montez, and Jordan Love are expected to be available much later on in the draft and a decision will need to be made when the Vikings are on the clock.

These passing prospects could be worth a look for Minnesota to secure a developmental project and an insurance policy to work with and learn from Cousins this season.

If the Vikings do not find their man during this year’s draft, then the 2021 class has plenty of hot prospects who play under center including Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Jamie Newman, and Kellen Mond.

It is very rare for a team to secure a franchise quarterback in free agency in this day and age of the NFL. So going into the draft and looking for the next big thing is something Minnesota’s coaching staff are undoubtedly already working extremely hard on.
