Improving at Left Tackle

This is an area the Vikings should look to improve for 2020. Riley Reiff is still serviceable, but his best years are behind him. He also isn’t worth what Minnesota is paying him and they could look to cut him to free up some cap space this offseason. If that happens, the easiest solution would be to move Brian O’Neill over to the left side.

It’s unclear if this is a move the Vikings are willing to try, but it could definitely work. O’Neill is easily Minnesota’s best offensive lineman and he has the size and athletic ability to play left tackle in the NFL.

Sure, there could be a period of adjustment. But even in that period where he is acclimating himself to the left side, he’d still be better than Reiff.

O’Neill is quick out of his stance and plenty strong. He rarely allows a sack and his bad games are few and far between.

Playing on the left side, he’d face the opponent’s best pass rusher and there is nothing in his NFL career that shows he couldn’t handle this.

Moving O’Neill to the left side would also free up the Vikings from having to use their first-round draft pick on an offensive tackle this year and it would allow them to address a much more pressing need like cornerback.
