Pittsburgh Steelers

The window is closing for Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to bring another ring to the franchise. With so many questions surrounding his options, Pittsburgh looking to acquire a player like Stefon Diggs becomes a reasonable proposition.

JuJu Smith-Schuster’s ability to be a consistent number one receiving option remains in doubt after an injury-ravaged campaign in 2019 and running back James Conner’s concussion problems were hampered his overall contribution considerably.

There is some good young talent within the Steelers’ offense, most notably Jaylen Samuels, Benny Snell, and James Washington. But having someone like Diggs lining up opposite Smith-Schuster could create a lethal receiving duo that could transform Pittsburgh’s fortunes following the return of their star quarterback.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did an incredible job of getting his banged-up roster within touching distance of the playoffs last season. However, in a division that includes Lamar Jackson, a potentially high-octane Cleveland Browns offense, and the impending arrival of predicted No. 1 pick Joe Burrow to the Cincinnati Bengals, things are setting up to be tougher than ever in the AFC North in 2020.

Acquiring someone who is almost guaranteed to get more than 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns within Pittsburgh’s offense is an option worth examining. Especially when one considers how Diggs could elevate the game and production of others around him with more space to work with.

The price might be too steep for the Steelers though. But with Big Ben possibly having one or two more years as the face of the franchise, they will need to put the right pieces around him in order to secure the best chance of getting their hands on the Vince Lombardi trophy once again.
