Third Round (Pick No. 89)

Tyler Biadasz – OL (Wisconsin)

The way this draft unfolded, the best value for the Vikings in the third round could, once again, be with someone on the offensive line.

There’s no question that Pat Elflein was a liability at left guard for Minnesota in 2019. If he wasn’t getting destroyed, then he was holding on to his man and getting costly penalties. His play has really deteriorated since his rookie season and he is better off becoming a backup.

Tyler Biadasz is a versatile blocker from the offensive line factory that is Wisconsin. Biadasz has everything scouts love to see in a guard prospect.

He’s got good size and he is a fluid mover. He’s got a powerful upper body and he will battle until the whistle blows and maybe even a few seconds after.

This kid can play guard or center and this position flexibility is something teams love. The Vikings don’t know what they have yet in Dru Samia and he and Biadasz could battle in camp to become the team’s starting left guard for 2020.

Another benefit of selecting a guard in this year’s draft is to get Josh Kline‘s future replacement on the roster. Kline is 30-years-old and he has two years left on his current contract. There was no doubt he was great last season, but he won’t be around forever.

Having Josh Jones at left tackle, Biadasz at left guard, Bradbury at center, Samia at right guard, and Brian O’Neill at right tackle, would potentially give Minnesota one of the best young offensive lines in the NFL. Their chronic issues on the offensive line would possibly be cured finally.
