Seventh Round (Pick No. 197)

Dane Jackson – CB (Pittsburgh)

As we mentioned earlier, the Vikings could look to bring in multiple cornerbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft since they are expected to be that thin at the position this offseason.

If Minnesota loses the corners they are expected to, the depth behind the projected starters in Mike Hughes, Holton Hill, and Kris Boyd would be Mark Fields and Nate Meadors. Fields and Meadors are nowhere close to being ready to see active duty and a guy like Dane Jackson would immediately pass them on the depth chart.

Jackson put his name on the map down at the Senior Bowl this year as he flashed in one-on-one drills. He showed a smooth backpedal, fluid hips, and he stuck to his man like they were attached at birth. Jackson also showed good timing as he broke on the ball at the right times to break up the pass. Overall, he was very impressive.

Jackson could work his way up the board with a good Combine and Pro Day during the next few weeks. So the Vikings landing him in the sixth round could actually be more of a pipe dream.

For now, though, it’s very possible he’s still available in the seventh round. He could end up being this year’s Bisi Johnson and make an immediate impact for Minnesota during his rookie season.
