Seventh Round (Pick No. 217)

Robert Windsor – DT (Penn State)

This offseason, the Vikings will be looking for a defensive tackle who can be a consistent penetrator up the middle. Armon Watts flashed potential as this type of player last season, but he still has some work to do.

This is an area Minnesota could potentially address much earlier in the 2020 NFL Draft. But depending on the way it falls, they may have to hold off for value. Robert Windsor is a guy they could take a shot on late in this year’s draft.

Windsor plays with a ton of fire. He’s 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, and he is a pure effort player who never gives up on a play. His motor is always going 100 mph and he uses his powerful upper and lower body to plow right through defenders on his path to the quarterback.

While his power is one of his strengths, it is also one of his bigger weaknesses. He relies too heavily on the pure bull rush. He doesn’t have a huge repertoire of pass-rushing moves and he will need to add a few to his arsenal if he’s going to succeed in the NFL.

This is where Vikings co-defensive coordinator Andre Patterson can come in handy though. He’s gotten the most out of Watts, Danielle Hunter, and Ifeadi Odenigbo, and Windsor has plenty of tools to be his next successful project.

Windsor and Watts could rotate every other series during games to keep them fresh and hopefully, this combination of youngsters could provide the interior pass rush that has been lacking for Minnesota recently.
