In 2019, the right side of the offensive line was certainly not the weakest part of the unit for the Vikings. Brian O’Neill took a few more steps in the right direction during his first full season as Minnesota’s starting right tackle and Josh Kline proved to be a solid addition at right guard after signing with the Vikings as a free agent last year.

However, Minnesota should always be looking to upgrade their roster, especially when it comes to their offensive line.

Despite Kline playing well enough to likely remain the Vikings’ starting right guard in 2020, the team should look into adding free-agent guard Brandon Scherff. With the Washington Redskins for the past five seasons, Scherff has lived up to the expectations he was given in 2015 when he was selected with the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft.

In his five years with the Redskins, the young offensive lineman has started 65 games (mostly at right guard) and earned three trips to the Pro Bowl. His first three seasons with Washington were also spent protecting current Minnesota quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

As good as Kline was able to perform in 2019, landing Scherff in free agency would help the Vikings’ offensive line make tremendous strides next season.
