3 players the Minnesota Vikings could franchise tag for 2020

3. Mackensie Alexander, cornerback
At first glance, many fans might not think Mackensie Alexander is worth the approximately $16.5 million that a franchise tag would cost according to Over the Cap. While that can be debated, the Minnesota Vikings do need to look into seeing what they can do to keep the young corner around.
Alexander has shown steady improvement since entering the NFL as a second-round draft pick out of Clemson in 2016. He has gotten much cleaner in his coverage and could be trusted with an opportunity as a starter based on his play the last couple of seasons.
Likely to draw a big contract this offseason, Spotrac predicts that the 26-year-old cornerback has a market value of around $8.4 million per year and expects him to land a three-year deal wherever he lands this offseason.
Minnesota could use the tag on Alexander while they work out a deal to keep him in Minnesota that hopefully is less than Spotrac’s projection, but whoever does end up with Mackensie Alexander on their roster will likely be more than happy with their investment in the young man.
