6 free-agent quarterbacks the Vikings could sign in 2020
By Nik Edlund
Mike Glennon
Mike Glennon is a big lanky quarterback who will be entering his eighth NFL season. He has plenty of starting experience having gotten the nod 22 times in his career. He also has played for a handful of teams during his time in the league. After his first four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he’s had stints with the Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, and most recently, the Oakland Raiders.
Known for being a very smart guy and able to understand what a defense is doing, he’s one of the few quarterbacks on this list who have thrown more career touchdowns than interceptions. He’s thrown for 5,163 yards in his career with 36 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. That’s not too bad.
The biggest negative to having Glennon as the backup would be his lack of mobility. He is not going to make many plays with his legs. If the Vikings offensive line has some of the same issues next seasons as it did this in 2019, and he is standing back there, things could get ugly quick.
Still, Glennon has a high football I.Q and a strong arm. He would actually be one of the better options on this list to be Kirk Cousins’ backup next season.
