6 free-agent quarterbacks the Vikings could sign in 2020

A.J. McCarron
A.J. McCarron is more known for his celebrity wife than his play on the football field. Still, he is an intriguing potential option for the Vikings backup quarterback job.
He was drafted in 2014 by the Cincinnati Bengals and McCarron couldn’t unseat Andy Dalton in his time with the team. But he did have a stretch where he started three games in 2015.
In these contests, McCarron completed 79 of his 119 passes for 854 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions for a 97.1 QB rating. That isn’t bad at all.
He has started just one game since then and that was this past season with the Houston Texans. In that contest, McCarron threw for 225 yards and one interception while also getting sacked five times.
McCarron isn’t a scrambler, but he can make plays on the ground if he needs to. He doesn’t have the on-field experience of a lot of other free-agent quarterbacks, but he does possess some upside.
He may be a little wary of coming to a team with an established quarterback. In his mind, he might think he still has a chance to be a starter and that won’t be happening in Minnesota.
If he doesn’t get a lot of offers, he could look to go to a contender like the Vikings to learn from Gary Kubiak and be ready to lead the team to the playoffs if Kirk Cousins were to go down at any point in the season.
