6 free-agent cornerbacks the Vikings could sign in 2020
By Nik Edlund
P.J. Williams
P.J. Williams is a player the Vikings should be plenty familiar with as Minnesota and the New Orleans Saints have formed a little rivalry over the years. The Saints signed a plethora of former Vikings last offseason and this year it could be the Vikings turn to pillage them right back.
Williams is a talented corner measuring in at 6-feet and 196 pounds, which puts him in the size range that Mike Zimmer prefers. Williams does come with some character baggage though.
Prior to the 2015 NFL Draft, he was arrested for a DUI. But those charges were later dropped. During his career with New Orleans, he’s been demoted for disciplinary reasons and in 2019, he was suspended for a couple of games by the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy.
Williams also has some injury issues in his past, including a torn hamstring and some concussions. While this guy’s talent can’t be denied, there are plenty of red flags surrounding him. This could actually benefit Minnesota though, as it could bring his price down.
While there are concerns about why Williams could never hang onto a starting job with the Saints, he is a talented player who is still only 26-years-old with plenty of good football left in him.
He still has plenty of upside and what a slap in the face it would be for New Orleans if it were the Vikings who were the team that was able to coach that potential out of him.
