He might be willing to take a pay cut

As the Vikings players were cleaning out their lockers at the end of the 2019 season, Everson Griffen reflected on his year with the team. Griffen answered a number of questions from reporters and it was pretty clear from his tone that he knew his time in Minnesota could potentially be over.

However, the veteran pass rusher did also continued to emphasize his desire to remain with the Vikings for the rest of his NFL career.

The question is, exactly how much money would Griffen be willing to sacrifice to stay with Minnesota? Unfortunately, the Vikings’ expected financial situation this offseason puts them in a position where they will likely have to see just how low of an offer the veteran pass rusher would accept.

Griffen could probably land a lucrative deal with another team this year that pays him at least $10 million annually. But if he truly wants to stay in Minnesota, he’ll likely have to agree to a contract that pays him somewhere around $6 million per year.

Griffen has already made a ton of money during his time in the league (over $55 million) and he showed with his contract restructure last offseason that he’s willing to take less money to help the Vikings sign other players.

Will he be willing to potentially earn even less money in 2020 than he did last season to remain in Minnesota?
