Stefon Diggs – WR (2015)

Every now and then teams will uncover gems late in the NFL Draft. It is part of what makes watching the draft so much fun, even during the later rounds.

The Vikings found one of the biggest gems of all-time in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft with Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs has simply gone on to be one of the best receivers in the league today and one of Minnesota’s all-time receiving greats.

Diggs has good size and speed, but where he wins is with his route running. This guy is lightning quick out of his breaks and he can turn and cut on a dime. He’s extremely quick twitched and he is hard for even the best corners in the NFL to defend.

Diggs routinely makes tough grabs and he will forever live in the hearts of Vikings fans for making the improbable “Minneapolis Miracle” catch in 2017.

What was more impressive than the catch itself was the sense of mind that Diggs had to keep on running. Many were clamoring for him to go out of bounds on the play, but he had the instinct to keep on running for the game-winning score.

Diggs’ career numbers are staggering for being selected in the fifth round as he’s caught 365 passes for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns. That’s insane production from a fifth-round draft choice.

As good as he’s been, Diggs had some diva-ish moments this past season. He held an odd press conference where he didn’t exactly deny wanting a trade. He also loves to leave cryptic tweets that put fans in a tither about whether or not he’ll be traded.

Whatever Diggs’ future holds, there is no doubt he’s been the Vikings’ best fifth-round pick of the last decade. And quite simply, he’s one of the team’s better draft picks of all time.
