The former Minnesota Vikings quarterback is hitting free agency this offseason and there is a report saying he could sign a deal that pays him an average of $30 million per year.

It’s been quite the journey in the NFL for Teddy Bridgewater since he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014.

Everything was lining up for Bridgewater to be the Vikings’ next franchise quarterback and then the unthinkable happened in 2016 when he suffered a gruesome knee injury. The injury kept him off the field for more than a year and it ultimately led to his departure from Minnesota in 2018.

Since leaving the Twin Cities, Bridgewater had a brief stint with the New York Jets before spending the last two seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

Many thought his football career was over after his knee injury in 2016. But Bridgewater has been injury-free since then and last season, he went 5-0 as a starter for the Saints when Drew Brees had to miss some time due to an injury of his own.

This year, the former Vikings quarterback will be a free agent and he’s not only expected to get a lot of interest from a bunch of teams, but he apparently has the potential to make some serious cash.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday, Bridgewater could earn a deal this offseason that pays him close to $30 million per year.

If this seems like a lot of money to give to a quarterback who has only six starts under center since 2015, it’s because it is. Since he’s only 27-years-old though, Bridgewater still has a bunch of upside and potential.

But is his potential worth paying him a similar amount to what Kirk Cousins will make with Minnesota in 2020?

A team giving Bridgewater a deal worth $30 million per year seems like a bit of a stretch. Something that pays him closer to $20 million or $25 million seems a little more believable.

But who really knows? Free agency can get a little crazy and there might be a team that is willing to pay whatever it takes to land Bridgewater this offseason.
