6 free-agent defensive tackles the Vikings could sign in 2020
By Dean Jones
Ndamukong Suh
Ndamukong Suh may not be the feared pass-rusher from the defensive tackle position he once was, but he showed last season that he can still compete at a high level.
He was one of the main reasons behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ much-improved run defense and he still warrants tremendous respect from opposing offensive lines. Although he is now firmly in the twilight of his career, Suh could be a productive force with the Vikings while they look for a long-term replacement.
This might be a step backward for the franchise given that Linval Joseph is slightly younger and arguably performing better than Suh.
Any potential release for Joseph is not going to be performance related and if they can acquire the former Detroit Lions star at minimal cost, it is an option worth considering for Minnesota.
Suh recorded 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and four pass deflections last season for a defense that was on their back foot during the majority of games thanks to quarterback Jameis Winston. Suh has had his problems with discipline during his NFL career, but there are few that would deny he is a major disruptor.
The former 2010 first-round pick out of Nebraska will want to make the most of what little time he has left in the league. Therefore, Suh might look at teams who are more prominent contenders rather than a Vikings squad that has its fair share of concerns this offseason.
