Jalyn Holmes – DT (2018)

To be fair, the jury is still out on Jalyn Holmes. But this guy is by no means guaranteed a spot on the Vikings roster in 2020. He just hasn’t done much of anything in his two years with the team.

Holmes was a defensive end during his college career at Ohio State. Minnesota moved him inside to defensive tackle after drafting him in 2018, hoping he’d be able to provide some interior pressure.

The Vikings really needed him to step up last season after losing Sheldon Richardson in free agency. But Holmes failed, as he just didn’t show up whenever his number was called.

In his two years with Minnesota, Holmes has a total of just seven tackles and one sack. This is a horrible early return on a fourth-round investment for the Vikings. He’s only been active for 11 matchups, but even if his numbers are projected over a 16-game season, they still aren’t good.

Physically, he’s got the tools to succeed. But he just can’t seem to put it together when he sees live action. Holmes appears to have been jumped on Minnesota’s defensive tackle depth chart by Armon Watts. As a rookie last season, Watts made the most out of the chances he got.

Holmes still has time to get off this list, but he will need to have a huge turnaround this preseason to not be considered one of the Vikings’ biggest fourth-round draft busts from the last decade.
