JaMycal Hasty – RB (Baylor)

Hear me out, the Vikings might want to think about replacing Dalvin Cook this offseason. Todd Gurley signed a massive extension with the Los Angeles Rams recently and now they are stuck with a horrible cap hit for the next few years. Gurley might not return to Los Angeles in 2020, but the Rams currently cannot find a trade partner to make a deal.

Cook is likely going to demand a lot of money during negotiations for an extension with Minnesota. For a running back like him with injury concerns and a team like the Vikings with tough cap questions, it makes too much sense to ship him off while they can.

Now to JaMycal Hasty. Hasty has the skill-set to play a similar role as Cook in Minnesota’s offense. Alexander Mattison can take over as the Vikings’ starting running back, but Hasty can be their change-of-pace runner.

Hasty has top-tier acceleration and he is one of the shiftiest backs in this class. He poses a threat as a receiver and he can turn any play into a big gain with his change of direction.

The thing I love the most about Hasty is his ability to provide pass protection and Minnesota could use a running back who can block from time to time. Hasty will likely put on a show at this week’s Combine.

He did not carry the ball a ton in college, which is both good and bad. He does not have a ton of experience, but his legs are fresh for the NFL.

If moving on from Cook is a real possibility for the Vikings this offseason, give me JaMycal Hasty as his replacement every time.
