6 free-agent offensive tackles the Vikings could sign in 2020
By Dean Jones
Adding an offensive tackle could be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Minnesota Vikings, but which 2020 free agents should they consider?
The Minnesota Vikings offensive line is almost complete and a few tweaks this offseason could see it become a force to be reckoned with.
The much-maligned group made big strides last year that transformed the fortunes of quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Dalvin Cook. Despite the unit’s deficiencies coming to the front in a second-round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, there is still a lot to like about this group.
The Vikings have a strong foundation from which to build with their current linemen. In Brian O’Neill, the team has a tremendous young prospect who gave up just one sack during a breakout 2019 campaign.
Moving O’Neill to left tackle and switching Riley Reiff inside to guard is an option that could be explored by Minnesota this year. One stumbling block is Reiff’s cap hit of $13.2 million heading into the 2020 season that could make him a candidate for release given the Vikings’ expected cap restrictions this year.
If they decide to part ways with the experienced figure, a replacement will need to be sought. Whether that be in free agency or the draft and it is a decision Minnesota will ponder considerably in the coming weeks.
If the Vikings look to free agency for offensive tackle help this offseason, who are six options they might consider signing?
