Minnesota Vikings

Yes, even with the dark clouds Mike Zimmer created over the possibility of Anthony Harris getting a big fat contract from the Vikings with his comments at the Combine, there is still a chance he returns to the Purple this offseason.

Zimmer always blows smoke up the butts of the media and this could be another example of that. Minnesota really can’t chance letting Harris go. With Jayron Kearse already tweeting that he isn’t coming back to the Vikings, that leaves one active safety on the team’s roster and that would be the Hitman, Harrison Smith.

Many would argue that Smith is as good as two safeties and that may be right. But Minnesota would be much better off bringing Harris back than trying to replace him with a rookie or a cheap veteran who would have to learn the team’s defensive system in the offseason.

That being said, if Zimmer is telling the truth and he really doesn’t value the position Harris plays, then perhaps he would be fine rolling with a rookie.

There could be two very good options available for the Vikings at pick No. 25 in this year’s NFL Draft. Alabama’s Xavier McKinney and LSU’s Grant Delpit are both projected to go off the board around that point of the draft and either one has the talent to step in and make an impact as a rookie.

Minnesota doesn’t have a lot of cap space, but they didn’t last year either and they were still able to re-sign Anthony Barr to a fat contract.

If anyone can make the numbers work, it’s Vikings salary cap guru, Rob Brzezinski, and even with the doubt Zimmer created at the Combine, chances are good Harris plays for Minnesota in 2020.
