Josh Jones – OT (Houston)

Houston offensive tackle Josh Jones faces a big NFL Scouting Combine this year as he looks to move into first-round consideration for the draft.

The talented individual boasts an outstanding skill-set that is going to warrant considerable interest from pro scouts. Jones does lack natural power and this will need to be improved significantly against NFL pass-rushers.

What he lacks in strength, Jones more than makes up for in speed and he has elite footwork that copes superbly with movement on the line of scrimmage. He is also adept at getting to the second level consistently and quickly which is another notable trait.

Jones has good size for a lineman, but his arm length is a concern that will need to be alleviated during the evaluation process. He is going to be better suited for a zone-blocking scheme initially and that puts him on the Vikings’ radar.

Whether Minnesota drafts someone like Jones and moves Brian O’Neill to the left tackle spot is up for debate.

Given how well O’Neill played at right tackle last season, it would appear unwise to shift him to the other side after just two years. But this is something that will definitely come up in the discussion.

Jones is a hard worker who did exceptionally well to lose weight and propel his game to the next level during his time at Houston. The potential is there providing he spends large periods of time in the weight room.
