Roy Anderson has left his role as LSU’s defensive analyst to join the Minnesota Vikings as their new assistant defensive backs coach.

For next season, the roster of the Minnesota Vikings isn’t the only aspect of the team that is expected to look much different than it has in recent years. The Vikings will also have a number of new coaches on their staff for 2020.

Minnesota has already put new people in charge of their offense and defense this offseason while also adding some new faces like Dom Capers, Daronte Jones, and Phil Rauscher.

Apparently, the Vikings have decided to add another new addition to their 2020 coaching staff. After spending last year as a defensive analyst for LSU, Roy Anderson is joining Minnesota as their new assistant defensive backs coach.

Before helping LSU win a National Championship last season, Anderson spent time as an assistant in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Ravens. During his time with the Colts and the Ravens, he worked with current Vikings special teams coach Marwan Maalouf.

Anderson will be part of Minnesota’s effort to turn their pass defense back into one of the league’s best for 2020. The Vikings ranked 15th last season in passing yards allowed and the 23 passing touchdowns they gave up was the most they allowed since 2015.

Since Minnesota is led by a head coach in Mike Zimmer who has a history of building dominant secondaries, the changes on the team’s staff this year make it very clear that he was not happy with how the defense played against the pass last season.

With Zimmer’s help combined with the new additions to the coaching staff, will the Vikings’ pass defense be able to get back on track next season?
