Seventh Round (Pick No. 197)

Mohamed Barry – LB (Nebraska)

Kentrell Brothers is set to be a free agent and before last year, the Vikings had selected a linebacker in the seventh round in each of the past seven drafts. With Eric Wilson also scheduled to be a free agent this offseason, Minnesota is probably taking a linebacker at some point in this year’s draft.

Here, we look at Mohamed Barry, who may not be a stud, but he’s the type of linebacker that provides depth and he can give a jolt on special teams.

According to The Draft Network’s Jonah Tuls, Barry plays with a ton of energy on the field and he always finds himself around the ball carrier. While that could be more efficient in a linebacker role, that’s something that could also fit in on special teams.

In the seventh round, teams are not going in there thinking they will find a Hall of Fame talent. So a player with promising traits is something the Vikings would like to get with the hope that they can be coached up into a contributor. Barry would fit the bill here.
