Could Moss, Winfield, and Diggs follow in their Vikings family footsteps?

Trevon Diggs – CB (Alabama)

Trevon Diggs has an exceptional skill-set at a position that the Vikings need to upgrade this offseason. The brother of Stefon Diggs had a tremendous year for Alabama in 2019, appearing in 12 games and finishing with 37 tackles, eight pass breakups, and three interceptions.

He transitioned superbly to cornerback after initially opening his college career at the same position as his sibling.

He is a real difference-maker thanks to his exceptional athleticism and ability to adjust when the ball is in the air. Diggs also has great technique and he is adept at either covering from the line of scrimmage or deeper down the field.

He is also not short of confidence, which was evident when he was recently asked how he would fare guarding All-Pro brother Stefon, to which he replied, “it would be easy.”

This swagger and confidence was sorely lacking with the Minnesota cornerbacks last season. Xavier Rhodes somehow made the Pro Bowl despite having arguably the worst year of his career, Trae Waynes flattered to deceive, and Mike Hughes’ injury problems continued to be a cause for concern.

Holton Hill and Mackensie Alexander showed promise, but the latter is a free agent and he could depart for somewhere new. Having someone like Diggs would give Minnesota an instant starting corner for the considerable future.

Given his relative lack of experience in the role, Diggs’ potential is limitless as he continues to develop and he should be in play during the later portion of the first round in this year’s NFL Draft.
