Should the Minnesota Vikings trade for Trent Williams?
By Dean Jones
Standout offensive tackle Trent Williams is looking for a new home. But are the Minnesota Vikings a realistic trade destination?
The Minnesota Vikings have the opportunity to trade for one of the NFL’s best offensive lineman in Trent Williams, providing the price is right.
The stud offensive tackle has been given permission to facilitate a trade away from the Washington Redskins through his agent, according to ESPN on Thursday. The Vikings are looking to upgrade the offensive line this offseason and they could do far worse than exploring a trade involving Williams.
This might not be feasible given Minnesota’s current salary cap problems and Williams’ high salary. But stranger things have happened and he would be a significant upgrade over anything they currently have.
Williams is widely regarded as one of the best left tackles in the NFL. He is a formidable presence in protection and he is equally adept on either run of passing downs.
Any trade involving Williams is likely going to require a king’s ransom from any potential suitor. Players with his type of ability are not placed on the trading block often and they normally come with a significantly high price.
The Vikings face some critical decisions this offseason as they look to keep competitive in 2020. Whether a trade for Williams is on their radar with more pressing needs elsewhere remains to be seen.
