Should the Minnesota Vikings trade for Trent Williams?
By Dean Jones
What would Williams bring to the Vikings?
Trent Williams has lived up to expectations after being selected fourth overall by the Redskins in the 2010 NFL Draft.
He has long been regarded as one of the premier left tackles in the league thanks to his outstanding skill-set and impressive consistency. Washington may have suffered significant struggles during his time with the franchise, but this was not a reflection on his elite play.
Williams is a real bookend that can protect the blindside against the NFL’s most feared pass rushers. He may have missed some time over the last three seasons, but that has not hampered his overall influence.
The former Oklahoma product is exactly what the Vikings offensive line is looking for. If Williams were to end up with Minnesota, it would represent a real upgrade over current starting left tackle Riley Reiff and one that could elevate a talented offense to even greater heights.
It would also allow stud right tackle Brian O’Neill to remain in a position in which he thrived in 2019. There is no telling what two standout tackles like Williams and O’Neill would do for the short-term ambitions of the franchise from an offensive standpoint.
With so much uncertainty surrounding some of their longtime veterans this offseason, a potential Williams trade would galvanize a Minnesota fan base that has real uncertainty about the direction the team is going.
It would be a huge commitment, but one that could bring a massive reward.
