Should the Minnesota Vikings trade for Trent Williams?
By Dean Jones
Williams’ relationship with Cousins
Prior to becoming the Vikings starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins worked closely with Trent Williams during their time together with the Redskins.
Williams became a real security blanket for the gunslinger during his time with the franchise. There is no doubt any potential trade to Minnesota would be met with Cousins’ seal of approval.
This would be a large commitment for the Vikings to make this happen. If it is an option they are going to explore, then they would be wise to seek the counsel of Cousins to find out exactly what Williams would bring to the franchise.
His play on the field leaves little doubt regarding the impact he could make. What Cousins could do is fill the front office in on how Williams’ character would fit in with other big personalities within the Minnesota locker room.
Cousins and Williams played six seasons together in Washington and they know each other’s game inside out. Having a dependable presence that Cousins trusts could prove to be invaluable and it may even raise the quarterback’s play to greater heights.
The Vikings have a potent offense that has a small number of holes to fill this offseason. Williams could be the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle providing Minnesota also brings in an interior lineman either in free agency or in the NFL Draft.
If the Vikings can actually pull a trade for Williams off, there will be nobody happier than Cousins heading into the final year of his $84 million deal.
