7 free agents under 25-years-old the Vikings could sign in 2020
By Dean Jones
Elijah Wilkinson – OT (RFA)
Elijah Wilkinson performed well for the Denver Broncos last season and could be in high demand as he enters free agency.
The offensive tackle played 82 percent of the Broncos’ offensive snaps in 2019 and gave a very good account of himself. This has led to reports Denver is planning to put a second-round tender on the player at a cost of $3.28 million.
Wilkinson can now be considered a viable starting option at tackle after a series of assured displays. The undrafted prospect from Massachusetts fought his way into a position of prominence and he will now want to be paid accordingly.
The Vikings need further help on their offensive line to get the most out of quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Dalvin Cook, who are currently heading into the final years of their respective deals.
Wilkinson will likely come at a high price if a second-round tender is placed on him. But he is an experienced and proven starter that a team might not get right away from someone coming in via the NFL Draft.
Much will depend on the future of Riley Reiff, who is set to count $13.2 million against the Minnesota salary cap in 2020 and more than $8 million of that would be freed up if he is released.
This makes him a prime candidate for release to free up some much-needed funds and if he moves on to somewhere new, then a good replacement will need to be sought.
