Hunter’s relationship with Patterson

Danielle Hunter’s relationship with new Vikings co-defensive coordinator Andre Patterson is another element that could see his game go to another level in 2020.

The pair have worked closely together throughout Hunter’s time in Minnesota, with Patterson in the role of defensive line coach before receiving a promotion earlier this year.

The coach played a leading role in making Hunter the player he is today and there is a real mutual respect between the two. This can only mean good things for the future.

Patterson will know how to get the very best out of Hunter and he will be working closely with Mike and Adam Zimmer on coming up with a defensive scheme that can maximize the pass rusher’s output.

While the secondary remains a significant concern with several new faces expected to be brought in during the offseason, the same cannot be said about Minnesota’s defensive front. Providing Everson Griffen and Stephen Weatherly are given new deals, there is a real scope for growth from a rotation that will also include Ifeadi Odenigbo and a potential high NFL Draft pick.

That is an embarrassment of riches and not something every team around the league can boast. While involving other players will be a priority, getting Hunter in the best possible position to torment opposing quarterbacks is paramount and something that will go a long way in determining whether the new co-defensive coordinators will be a success.
