By Dean Jones
The Minnesota Vikings may be on the lookout for a long-term replacement under center in the 2020 NFL Draft and the former Oklahoma standout is worth considering.
With Kirk Cousins heading into the final year of his $84 million deal without any sign of an extension on the horizon, the Minnesota Vikings may seek a long-term replacement at quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.
There are some very intriguing prospects coming out of college this year who have generated plenty of buzz. With Minnesota aiming to fill other positions of need first, they may wait until Day 2 of the draft to find their future gunslinger.
Former Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts is an intriguing option after a tremendous 2019 season that saw him contend for the Heisman Trophy. He is an athletic prospect who has game-changing ability providing he is in the right system.
His style of play is in keeping with the current trend in the NFL following the success of Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson. This is a copycat league and anyone looking to emulate the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens is going to take an extremely good look at Hurts and what he can bring to a franchise.
Having mobility against speedy defenses is a rising trait in NFL quarterbacks. The stereotypical pocket passer is still relevant, but it does not necessarily translate to the success it did in the past.
Hurts has plenty to brush up on if he is going to make a solid transition to the pros. Where he lands will play a huge part in his overall fortunes.
