Tight End

Tight end may very well be the Vikings’ deepest position on their entire roster and one that they will not be adding to during the 2020 NFL Draft.

Minnesota has two studs at the top in longtime starter Kyle Rudolph and promising second-year man Irv Smith. Rudolph really came on at about the halfway point of the 2019 season. He became Kirk Cousins‘ primary red-zone target when Adam Thielen went down and he finished the year with 39 receptions for 367 yards and six touchdowns.

Smith was no slouch either as he amassed 36 receptions for 311 yards and two scores in 2019. They form one of the best tight end tandems in the league, but that isn’t where the depth stops. Behind those two are Tyler Conklin, Brandon Dillon, and David Morgan.

Conklin is a more than serviceable pass-catcher who can also block. Dillon was a promising undrafted rookie who defied the odds and made the 53-man squad a season ago.

The Vikings also get Morgan back from injury next season. He’s a favorite of the coaching staff, as he good at blocking in the running game while also providing Cousins with an unexpected target in as a pass-catcher.

Minnesota will be hard-pressed to figure out a way to keep all five of these guys on the team in 2020. There’s no way they are going to use a draft pick on a tight end to create even more of a log jam at this position.
