Best and worst Minnesota Vikings third-round picks of last decade
By Nik Edlund
Josh Robinson – CB (2012)
We go back a bit on this one. In 2012, the Vikings used their third-round pick on this speedy cornerback out of Central Florida and Josh Robinson came in and started six games as a rookie.
He played very well as he finished with 56 tackles and two interceptions. He was named a starter for the 2013 season, but after the 10th game, he fractured his sternum and missed the rest of the year.
Robinson, once again, won a starting role in 2014, but he had a young Xavier Rhodes breathing down his neck this time. He eventually lost the job after the fifth week of the season, but he still had a solid year with three interceptions and nearly 50 tackles.
When the Vikings took Trae Waynes in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the writing was on the wall for Robinson. He was pushed down the depth chart and only appeared in five games that year.
While Robinson played well when given the chance, he was never one of Mike Zimmer’s guys and ultimately he wasn’t offered a new contract when his rookie deal expired in 2016.
Robinson signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after departing Minnesota and he played for them for two years. He then signed with the New Orleans Saints and spent some time last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Robinson was never able to regain the success he found early in his NFL career and it wouldn’t be one bit surprising to see him not get picked up by a team this offseason, all but ending his time in the NFL.
