4 most overpaid Vikings players heading into the 2020 season

3. Xavier Rhodes – CB
2020 Cap Hit: $12.9 million
Back in 2017 when Xavier Rhodes signed a five-year, $70.1 extension with the Vikings, he was coming off a season that resulted in his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Rhodes really came into his own as a shutdown corner in 2016 and Minnesota wanted to reward him for his efforts.
The first season after signing his extension turned out very well as the Vikings corner earned a First-Team All-Pro selection. But then everything started to fall downhill.
Rhodes battled with injuries in 2018 and his performance took a turn in the wrong direction. Then last season, he was officially no longer a worry for opposing quarterbacks.
In 2019, Rhodes gave four touchdowns and he allowed his coverage to haul in 81.5 percent of their targets. Opposing passers also had a rating of 123.8 when throwing in the direction of the Minnesota corner last season.
Rhodes is likely heading towards a release this offseason. But until then, he currently remains one of the most overpaid players on the Vikings roster.
