First Round (Pick No. 25): Trevon Diggs, CB – Alabama
The secondary of the Minnesota Vikings is in big trouble. There is a good chance that both Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander will both be exiting in free agency. Plus, the team could decide to move on from Xavier Rhodes based on his contract and performance in recent seasons.
Cornerback needs to be the top priority in this draft. Several of the top prospects should go quickly to needy teams, but as the number four cornerback, there is a chance Trevon Diggs could be available when the Vikings are on the clock.
Bringing the brother of Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the team would be great for morale, but the main reason for bringing him in is that he has great size, speed, and athleticism with talented catching ability.
At 6’1 and 205 pounds, Diggs can still be a bit rough around the edges. However, working with Mike Zimmer and the Minnesota coaching staff could bring out the potential in the NCAA star and see him rise to amazing levels.
Minnesota has spent three first-round picks on cornerbacks in the last seven years. After the 2020 NFL Draft, that will likely become four out of eight years. Mike Zimmer may be a cornerback whisperer but finding one to stick around and play at a high level seems to be the real challenge for this front office.
