Vikings Draft 2020: Pre-free agency seven-round mock draft
By Adam Carlson
Second Round (Pick No. 58): Justin Madubuike, DT – Texas A&M
The Minnesota Vikings have an amazing defensive line that could look a bit different in 2020. Pro Bowl talent is in two of the four spots, with Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter playing at high levels. Jaleel Johnson looks poised to fill Linval Joseph‘s spot meaning that filling that other spot to rush the passer or stop the run would be huge for the defense.
Shamar Stephen struggled in his role last season and the team has to be looking for an individual to fill this role and make it easier on a secondary that will likely several new faces in new places attempting to slow the opposition’s passing attack.
At 6’3 and 293 pounds, Justin Madubuike has been proving his ability to penetrate an offensive line. In his last two seasons, the Texas A&M star has racked up 22 tackles for a loss including 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, and four deflected passes.
Spending their first two picks on the defense might seem odd considering the problems the team had on offense during the 2019 NFL season. However, the Vikings plan to win games based on a strong defense and efficient offense and ensuring the opposition can’t rack up the score means less pressure will be put on the offense.
