Third Round (Pick No. 105): Darnay Holmes, UCLA – CB

The Minnesota Vikings picked up a compensatory pick in the third round and will likely use that pick to recover from more of their losses in the secondary. If they can’t bring back at least one of Rhodes, Trae Waynes, or Mackensie Alexander, the team will likely take two at the position early.

Some teams may sleep on Darnay Holmes in this year’s draft because of his size. At 5’10 and 195 pounds, he would need to assume a particular role on defense to be successful and Minnesota could offer him that opportunity.

The Vikings could knock out a couple of big needs with this pick. Not only do they get a player they could use in nickel or in the slot but he could also compete to become the team’s return man on kickoffs and maybe even punts.

If the team invests two early picks in its corners, it can move forward in the draft and address other needs. Of course, this also means Holton Hill or Mike Hughes would need to be ready to start, but limitations in free agency have left the team with few options.
