Seventh Round (Pick No. 239): Oluwole Betiku Jr., Edge – Illinois

Even though the Minnesota Vikings seem to want to bring Everson Griffen back, the team will likely still want to look into drafting some potential edge rushers to add to the rotation. While his resume is quite thin, the potential is there.

Betiku only played 12 games between his time at USC and Illinois. A hip surgery sidelined him and a transfer limited his time on the field, but it was his 2019 season that found him land on the radar of NFL teams.

In his 10 games as a junior, Betiku accumulated 20 tackles with 13 of those being for a loss and nine being sacks. He is a sure tackler with a solid technique that takes advantage of his 6’3, 250-pound frame.

The Vikings have proven their ability to develop defensive end at a high rate and if they can harness the raw potential in Betiku they could have a real gem on their hands. At the very least, they could find someone who could be a backup or special teams player.
