Is Diggs playing with fire?

Stefon Diggs might think his social media posts are done in good humor, but they are painting him in a bad light. This could have serious ramifications for his long-term future in the NFL.

Professional athletes are undoubtedly fully aware of the way their messages are scrutinized. They receive plenty of training and guidance regarding social media’s significance and the effect it can have on the public’s perception.

This might just be a case of Diggs wanting to stay relevant during the offseason when players like him are largely forgotten about during free agency. One might suggest he is being more methodical and sending out distress signals for any franchise aiming to secure his services.

There is a level of immaturity about it all, but it is also a sign of the times. We have seen the way athletes can manipulate the media in order to get what they want. They no doubt get a helping hand from their agent or PR people for a nudge in the right direction.

Diggs might be doing more harm than good to his reputation. Teams may think twice about wasting capital on a player that is not shy in voicing his displeasure to get what he wants. This is something most NFL head coaches have to deal with and bringing in another potential problem would raise a red flag.
