The Minnesota Vikings have plenty of questions heading into free agency, including a potential new deal with defensive end Stephen Weatherly.

The Minnesota Vikings have plenty of pending free agents who were part of the rotation last season. Progressive player Stephen Weatherly is another that may be getting a new deal.

The defensive end was a draft steal for Minnesota, who took Weatherly with a seventh-round pick in 2016. He fought hard to earn his spot on the roster and he has developed his skills considerably with every passing year.

Weatherly is an imposing figure on the edge who might not pad the stat sheet like Vikings stud pass-rusher, Danielle Hunter, but he does a lot of great work on the line of scrimmage that has still made him a force to be reckoned with.

Minnesota needs to make some serious moves this offseason to keep the team competitive. They gambled heavily on a win-now attitude and that has failed up to now.

This would have been far worse had Everson Griffen not opted out of his current deal and although he might be brought back for 2020, the Vikings should still be seeking his long-term replacement.

Weatherly could be the option Mike Zimmer goes with at the starting spot in the years ahead, providing the organization can free up funds and offer him a deal that works for both parties.
