Offensive continuity

Having Kirk Cousins around gives the Vikings the best possible chance of making the most out of their rapidly closing window.

The quarterback is familiar with the offensive system and he will know what measures he needs to implement to get his team to a possible Super Bowl berth. Cousins will also get the chance to potentially try some new things under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who worked with the quarterback last season in an advisory role.

Bringing in a draft prospect is still a possibility to develop behind Cousins. But a veteran presence would have been needed to learn the playbook and familiarise himself with a potent offense that has plenty of playmakers at its disposal.

While Cousins has had his fair share of problems with wide receiver Stefon Diggs both during and after the season,  this cannot be said for the rest of the offense. One could see what it meant to them that their quarterback picked up his elusive first playoff victory in the wild locker room celebrations in New Orleans last season.

Providing the Vikings make some improvements to the offensive line in the coming weeks, especially on the interior, then this will be an offense that is going to do some damage in 2020.

There is still enough firepower for Cousins to thrive in Kubiak’s scheme. One would expect Minnesota to replace Diggs after the receiver was reportedly traded to the Buffalo Bills on Monday. The Vikings could also pick up someone to occupy the No. 3 receiver spot for next season.
