Vikings bringing back kicker Dan Bailey for another three years
By Adam Patrick
The Minnesota Vikings announced on Thursday that they have re-signed kicker Dan Bailey and the deal is reportedly for three years.
So far this offseason, it feels like the Minnesota Vikings have seen more players depart than what they’re typically used to. On Thursday, however, the Vikings revealed the return of someone who should help the team moving forward.
Minnesota has announced the re-signing of kicker Dan Bailey and the new deal is for a total of three years according to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling.
The news of Bailey’s return comes after the Vikings were also able to re-sign punter Britton Colquitt for another three years. Unless things start to unravel, these two will be continuing to work together in Minnesota for the next few seasons.
After a rocky first year with the Vikings back in 2018, Bailey got back on track last season and he looked more like the very accurate kicker who he was earlier in his career with the Dallas Cowboys. In 2019, he made 27 of his 29 field-goal attempts, including all three attempts from at least 50 yards away.
Of Bailey’s two misses last season, neither of them came during any of Minnesota’s home games inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
Kicking has been a bit of a thorn in Mike Zimmer’s side during the majority of his tenure as the head coach of the Vikings. Bailey’s performance in 2019 was arguably the best of any Minnesota kicker under Zimmer’s watch and the team clearly felt he was worth bringing back for the next few years.
At the very least, the Vikings are just hoping Bailey will give them one less thing to worry about. Then again, Minnesota’s kicking curse could always come back to strike when the team least expects it.
If anyone has been paying attention to the team for the last 20 years, nothing is guaranteed when it involves a Vikings kicker.
